Thurso High School Heating Oil Leak And River Thurso - Update 19 September
The Thurso High School heating oil leak investigation work continues to identify the cause and the extent of the leak.   This involves considerable site analysis to enable The Highland Council to know the extent of the contamination and will inform the scale of the site clean-up.

The Highland Council welcomes the partnership approach from Transport Scotland in implementing the 20mph speed limit on sections of trunk road through villages and towns in Highland.   Transport Scotland have provided the public with details on the work that will be undertaken along the North West's trunk road network to the installation of new 20mph signage and the removal of existing 30mph signage and road markings, to encourage compliance with the new speed limits.

Scotrail Off-peak Fares Trial Reductions
Off-peak fares live in ticketing systems ahead of 2 October trial.   Customers can now view and book tickets from Monday, 2 October 2023onwards with off-peak fares now updated in ticketing systems ahead of the six-month trial.

The Charity Commission for england and Wales has issued new guidance on charities' use of social media.   Published today (18th September 2023), the guidance makes clear that social media can be a highly effective way for a charity to engage its audiences and communicate about its work but that there are risks involved, which trustees should plan for.

Supporting Unpaid Carers - New Scottish Benefit To Be Piloted In Three Areas
Carer Support Payment will open for applications in pilot areas from November 2023, subject to parliamentary approval of regulations setting out rules and eligibility.   Adults living in Perth and Kinross, Dundee City and Na h-Eileanan an Iar, will be the first to be able to apply ahead of phased national rollout from Spring 2024.
