Its Official - Government Update On Corporation Tax
The government has today, Friday 14 October, announced that Corporation Tax will increase to 25% from April 2023 as already legislated for, raising around £18 billion a year and acting as a down payment on its full Medium-Term Fiscal Plan.   The Prime Minister has set out that the way the government is delivering on its mission to achieve a low tax, high wage, high growth economy is to change.

At a meeting of The Highland Council on 22 September 2022, Councillors approved the creation of a Highland-wide grant fund of up to £450,000 to help alleviate the cost-of-living crisis for vulnerable households through community-led initiatives.   Third Sector voluntary and community organisations are invited to apply for grants under the value of £10,000.

Scotrail Travel Advice From Friday, 14 October
The overtime ban by RMT trade union members of ScotRail, which means there will be cancellations to services from Friday, 14 October 2022.   Why is this happening? This action short of a strike by RMT trade union members of ScotRail - which is a result of the ongoing pay dispute - will see some daily cancellations, as the operation of ScotRail services requires rest day working and overtime as recruitment continues.

STORNOWAY., Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October 11th) sold 2,572 store lambs of all classes Lambs (1,111) averaged £42.55 and sold to £92 gross for a pen of Crosses from 46 Lower Barvas.   Ewes (1,068) sold to £78 gross for a pair of Texel Crosses from 20, Coll, Back.

Close to 70 percent of 18-34 year olds forced to borrow money for fuel
New research, released today by used car buying service ChooseMyCar.com, shows that nearly three quarters of 18-34 year olds are struggling to pay for fuel to run their car.  This is a huge increase from six months ago, when earlier research showed that 46 percent were suffering.

Cutting Benefits Uprating Would Save £3 Billion But Leave Poorest Families Incomes At Lows Not Seen Since The Turn Of The Century
Uprating benefits in line with earnings next year could save £3 billion.   This would set the typical incomes of the poorest fifth of working-age families back to levels not seen since 2000-01, according to new analysis published (Thursday 13 October 2022) by the Resolution Foundation.

Record Lows In Unemployment And Record Highs In Long-term Sickness Poses Huge Challenge For Policy Makers
A tight labour market has seen pay growth strengthen and unemployment fall to a near-50-year-low.  But the workforce continues to shrink, driven by economic inactivity due to long-term ill-health rising to a record 2.49 million, highlighting the dilemma facing policy makers, the Resolution Foundation said on Tuesday (11 October 2022) in response to the latest ONS labour market statistics.
