n a monthly basis, CPIH rose by 0.6% in July 2022 compared with no change in July 2021.  Figure 4 shows how each of the main groups of goods and services contributed to the change in the CPIH annual inflation rate between June and July 2022.

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 8.8% in the 12 months to July 2022, up from 8.2% in June.   The largest upward contributions to the annual CPIH inflation rate in July 2022 came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas and other fuels, and owner occupiers' housing costs), transport (principally motor fuels), and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Highlands and Islands Regional MSP Rhoda Grant has submitted a written question on NHS Patient Travel Reimbursement Scheme and is calling on the Scottish Government to prioritise its review and to stop "dragging their feet".   This comes after the Scottish Government revealed to her that the NHS Patient Travel Reimbursement Scheme was going to be reviewed but that review was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

£9bn More Could Be Raised Through Govt's Energy Profits Levy To Ease Families' Bills This Winter, As Prices And Profits Continue To Rise
Increasing taxes on North Sea oil and gas companies would triple the amount of money the government can raise from fossil fuel companies making excessive profits, which could be used to ease the burden for families this winter.   As energy bills continue to rise the government could increase the Energy Profits Levy by 20 percentage points to raise £9.3bn more than the £5bn it is currently expected to generate in the next 12 months, according to new research published by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) on 13 August 2022.

Significant Rail Disruption Between 17 - 21 August
Due to further strike action across Great Britain planned by RMT members of Network Rail, ScotRail services will be disrupted between Wednesday 17, and Sunday, 21 August.   When are the strikes happening? The strikes will take place on Thursday, 18 and Saturday, 20 August.

Council Strikes To Go Ahead After UNISON Reject Derisory Pay Offer
UNISON, the largest union in local government, met today to discuss COSLA's latest 3.5% pay offer.  The union unanimously agreed to reject this revised offer outright and voted overwhelmingly to continue with their strike plans in councils across Scotland.
