Visitors To Be Engaged By Outdoor Access Rangers
From 1 April 2022 people visiting the Highlands may have the chance to meet Highland Council's Seasonal Outdoor Access Rangers who begin patrols and visitor engagement across Lochaber, Skye, Loch Ness, Wester Ross and the North West.   As visitor numbers increase throughout the Spring and Summer months, so will the number of Rangers who will be out-and-about on their patrols.

Findings from the final report of the government-backed REACT-1, one of the largest studies into coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in England, have been published today.   The findings from Imperial College London and Ipsos MORI, covering 8 March to 31 March 2022 (round 19 of the study), show that prevalence in England during this period was 6.37%.

WHAT IS RED DIESEL & HOW IS ITS USAGE BEING RESTRICTED? Red diesel is regular diesel combined with chemical markers and red dye; the dye is added to make it easier to identify.  It is only usable in specific cases, and it is actually illegal to use red diesel for driving on public roads.

Highland Council Raises Concerns In Its Response To The Draft National Planning Framework
In The Highland Council's response to the Scottish Government draft new National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4), concerns have been raised that the proposed NPF4 falls short on delivering key regional priorities for Highland and also in achieving Scotland’s transition to net zero.   NPF4 will be a long-term plan that will guide spatial development, set out national planning policies, designate national developments and highlight regional spatial priorities.

Window For Climate Action Closing Fast
The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report published today (Monday 4 April) shows growth in global emissions has slowed over the past decade, but much more needs to be done, including halving global emissions by 2030, to keep the goal of 1.5C in reach and avoid the worst impacts of global warming.   The window to keep 1.5C in reach is closing fast.
