Mey Selections Adds £140k In Premium Prices For Local Farmers
North Highland Products - the operating company for the Mey Selections brand - has reported turnover of over £1.2m in its first five months of operation, with over £140,000 gained in premium payments to farmers by the end of March this year for branded beef and lamb.   Mey Selections was launched by The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay in August 2005 as part of his North Highland Initiative, which aims to boost the North Highlands economy by promoting its produce, tourism and the built environment.  
NEW PLANT DELIVERS NEXT PHASE OF REACTOR CLEAN-OUT
A £3.8 million plant has commenced active commissioning ready to clean up effluent from the next phase of decommissioning Dounreay's Prototype Fast Reactor.   The start-up of the plant marks the end of a highly successful design and construction project, which has maintained an exemplary safety record on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority by UKAEA and its contractors.  
Renewables Businesses On show At UK's Biggest Energy Exhibition
A wide range of renewable energy technologies and businesses from the Highlands and Islands will be on show at All Energy in Aberdeen - the UK's biggest energy exhibition - on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th May.   Fourteen organisations will be exhibiting under the new HI-energy brand, which has been created to represent the extensive renewable energy resources, infrastructure and expertise that the Highlands and Islands has to offer.

Cost Of Workplace Absence Tops £13 Billion - New CBI Survey
The cost of staff absence to the UK economy rose to over £13bn in 2005 - and 66 million days were lost across the public services at a cost of £3.4bn to the taxpayer - according to a new survey of over 400 organisations.   The latest annual CBI / AXA Absence Survey, published today (Monday 15 May 2006), reveals that absence levels were 30 per cent higher across public sector organisations than in the private sector.

What's Your Real Fuel Bill?
Employees could be exaggerating fuel bills by as much as 25 percent and UK bosses need to stop turning a blind eye.   The warning comes from AA Business Services as petrol prices reach their highest level yet and the company launches Fleet Advantage, a new payment card to help businesses get more control over their fuel expenditure.

A new Produce Fair is running every Friday at the Morven building at North Highland College in Thurso.   Fresh local produce from such as eggs, baking and later in the season strawberries willbe on sale each Friday.

Wick Music Shop Says Thanks To All Customers - Thurso Shop Sale Now On
The Wick Music Shop shut last weekend and the owner and staff would like to thank all customers for their support over the last 6 1/2 years.   The Thurso shop is still open for now to run down the stock and all CD's and Cassettes are all now half price.

The building enabling work for Caithness Horizons has begun, with the contract for the first phase of work being awarded by Highland Council to local firm MM Miller (Wick) Ltd.   Caithness Horizons has held its first annual general meeting and is delighted to announce that directors Paul Cariss, the company's chairman, and Tina Wrighton of UKAEA have both been co-opted back onto the board.
