A difficult trading year by the company that manufactures and sells high quality beds and furniture has resulted in a loss last year. With a base in Inverness Highland Blindcraft in a great place for anyone to see the furniture, mattresses and beds but do you know where it is? Have you ever visited their showroom.?

Well now it is easier than ever as they have gone online with all of their products. Check out www.highlandblindcraft.co.uk

Denise Clark for Highland Blindraft said, "Directors and Management were looking for ways to turn the company into a more financially viable proposition, and secure the jobs for the 19 disabled people who are currently employed here. We are talking with the Highland Council not to ask for additional funding, but are requesting that we can be treated as a preferred supplier, and any beds they purchase for Residential homes or for the Homeless they buy from BlindCraft."

"Within the factory fixed costs have been reduced as far as practicably possible, with all employees within the factory taking a reduction in hours since July last year, and stock holdings reduced as far as possible. The result is that the financial outcome for the year is entirely dependent on the sales achieved for the balance of this year."

We receive funding from the department of Works and Pensions, and from the Highland Council, but the funding we receive only part funds the wages of the disabled people and the balance of wages and all overheads, sales and admin costs are met from our own trading abilities.

"The public can help keep blind and disabled people in high quality jobs by considering our products when they come to replace beds and other furniture."

As you will know Highland BlindCraft manufactures a wide range of standard size and bespoke beds, divans, mattresses, headboards, a chair range and an upholstery department. We also market a variety of bedroom and occasional furniture in quality pine mainly from Erskine, another supported factory in Glasgow. We supply high quality products to our customers at competitive prices and already supply, a small amount to the Highland Council, as well as Moray Council, independent residential establishments and nursing homes, Hotels, B&B's and numerous individuals throughout the Highlands.

You can help us by buying your bed, mattress, divan, headboard or chair from us, and we will manufacture it just for you in the factory in Inverness. You can come and visit us at the Showroom in Ardconnel Street, Inverness and see some of the great new products we have in stock, like our new leather bed, in a rich chocolate colour and our fantastic memory foam pillows, which are retailing at only £20. Or if you have access to a computer then our web site now has the facility to buy on line, and you can purchase in the comfort of your own home.

As you know the objectives of Highland BlindCraft are to promote the well being of blind and partially sighted persons, and have over the years widened the remit, to include people with other disabilities, including physical disabilities, learning disabilities and mental heath problem, resident in the Highlands of Scotland. The company's role is to provide training and employment of those individuals within its factory.

The workshop, in Ardconnel Street, Inverness has operated in the same building for nearly 150 years, starting in 1868 when the society was formed to teach blind people to read. Whilst there are several supported factories in Scotland similar to us, a number are owned by local authorities providing goods and services direct to the authority, whereas Highland BlindCraft is managed by a Board of Directors and is a charitable company, limited by guarantee.
