Carol-Anne Mackay has been appointed as Event Support Officer to support the National Modd which is being held in Caithness in 2010.

Carol-Anne will provide support to the local organising committee of Mod Ghallaibh, for a full programme of events, leading up to, and during the Royal National Mod.

A native of Strathy, Carol-Anne is an established musician in her own right with various recording credits to her name including 2 CD's with Dochas and a number of radio and TV appearances as a soloist and band member.

She graduated in 1999 with a degree in Scottish music from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, then spent a year studying Gaelic at Sabhal Mhor Ostaig and latterly took up the post of Highland Council Bagpipe Instructor in the Wester Ross Schools.

Responding to her recent appointment, Carol-Anne said "I am really looking forward to getting involved with this project. The local organising committee has already done a tremendous job in funding-raising which means we have the funding in place to lay on a very ambitious programme of events during 2010 leading up to the National Royal M??d event in October."

Carol-Anne recently moved back up North with her husband, Bruce to be nearer to home. In August 2008 their family grew with the birth of their first child, Donald Neil. Since her move, Carol-Anne has been involved in teaching for Feis Ghallaibh and Feis air an Oir as well as being a full time mum.

Raymond Bremner, Convenor of the local organising committee, said "It is great to see someone of Carol-Anne's calibre getting involved. Her background in music, Gaelic and her involvement with the Mod over the years stands her in good stead to get to grips with the job quickly".

"We have a lot of local people, giving up their time, to help organise a number of activities over the coming 10 months and whilst we have funding for the local committee programme we still have funds to raise for the main body An Comunn G??idhealach, who are responsible for running the Mod"

Carol-Anne added "We are hoping the whole community gets behind the programme of events and comes out to support them. A successful Mod can also help promote the area as a great place to visit at any time of the year. While my job is to promote the Mod I hope that we will also be able to provide a lasting tourism legacy for the future."
