I am writing to introduce myself. My name is David Baron and I am your Scottish Labour candidate for Caithness Landward.

Throughout my professional life education has been both my career and my passion. I spent 30 years as a teacher both at high school and college level. I have seen first hand how a good education can make a real difference in the life of the average child. I also understand the pressures teachers are under. However, I also know the other side of it thanks to my time as a councillor on Lancashire Country Council. I saw the pressure to balance budgets and ensure that all funds were spent properly. I know that parents know how best to spend the money, and I feel it is vital that decisions regarding local schools should be taken at school level by an extended parent council with total budgetary control. This is part of the bigger picture where Scottish Labour wants to decentralise more powers so that local decisions are taken at a local level.

I believe that Caithness Landward deserves a person with real experience. Someone who has the experience of balancing a budget, both in the home and at council level. Someone who has experience of bringing jobs to an area. Caithness Landward deserves councillors who will focus all their energies on improving their constituents lives and the lives of their children.

During the last weeks I have personally travelled Landward Ward from coast to coast and before the election I will have visited every community, whether large or small, to listen to the views of the residents I hope to represent.

I have heard the concerns that people have about the present administration and it would be easy to promise fundamental reform. However, in my experience change at a local level can only be brought about by committed councillors who have gained experience in local government and are prepared to fight entrenched positions.

In seeking your vote I can give you one pledge. You will have placed your trust in a fighter for the people.

Yours truly,

David Baron
