Council Elections - Thurso - John Rosie - Independent
14th April 2012
As a local candidate my allegiance as always is to the local people of Thurso and not to any political party.
I will continue to work closely with my Independent colleague Donnie Mackay for the good of Thurso and Caithness, at the beginning of our last term we discovered that the recreational facilities in Thurso and its environs had been allowed to fall into a serious state of disrepair. We committed ourselves to finding the extra money required and have achieved previously unallocated funds to the value of £931,000, this should be seen as a bonus for Thurso.
During a period of financial difficulty we must ensure that great care is taken with expenditure and that waste is avoided.
I shall be happy to work with like minded councillors who try to ensure that local decisions are made by local councillors and not by those many miles south of the ord who know nothing of Caithness and even less of our people.
For the future I am concerned that we provide adequate care for the elderly and a decent education for our young people.
With the rundown at Dounreay we will have to work hard with other agencies to ensure that local firms are involved in the new technology occurring in the Pentland Firth.
We shall also have to work hard to gain improvements to our transport infrastructure which will be vital to the future prosperity of Caithness.
