New IT Awards From British Computer Society

17th May 2007

BCS targets SME sector with new category in IT Industry Awards 18 May 2007: BCS is looking for examples of IT excellence from the 4.3 million businesses that make up the SME sector. The organisation has introduced a new category specifically for small to medium enterprises in the BCS IT Industry Awards 2007.

Businesses have until 12th July to enter for the SME Award which will recognise the contributions made to an organisation's success by the IT department and the systems they use. As well as the specific category for SMEs there are an additional 21 categories which offer organisations of all sizes the opportunity to showcase their excellence and expertise in IT, including awards for project based and individual excellence covering areas such as, mobile technology, social contribution, technology supplier, green computing and web-based technology to name but a few.
The BCS IT Industry Awards, which are partnered this year with NCC and Intellect, are a central element of the BCS' professionalism in IT programme, with the aim of providing a platform for organisations to show how they can achieve a professional approach in the delivery of IT within business.

David Clarke, BCS Chief Executive, says: "This is a very exciting year for us and as such we have taken the opportunity to refresh the awards, joining with NCC and Intellect and introducing new categories which reflect some of the most important issues for IT in the present and future.

"Our awards are a great showcase for professionalism in IT, highlighting the importance of technology within today's business environment where IT plays an integral role from the board room to customer communications."

The BCS IT Industry awards, which unite the BCS IT Professional Awards and IM Awards, are the leading hallmark of success amongst practitioners in the IT industry today. As standards of sophistication, business acumen and skill in the
IT world are continually developing, the role of IT and its effective management is critical across the whole spectrum of business. These cross-industry awards recognise, promote and acclaim excellence, professionalism, innovation and the
outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups contribute.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, in December, forming the culmination of a year of celebration for the BCS' 50th anniversary.
