DTI Director Visits North Companies

26th August 2004

Claire Durkin, director of energy, innovation and business support with responsibility for oil and gas, renewables, nuclear and clean coal recently (18-20 Aug) visited a range of organisations and met representatives from companies based in Orkney and Caithness.

In Orkney Ms Durkin visited the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) before going to Caithness where she visited the Causeymire wind farm, UKAEA Dounreay, RWE Nukem, Kongsberg Maritime, Norfrost and Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE).

In addition she met representatives from Subsea 7, JGC Engineering and Technical Services, Edward Mackay Ltd and Caithness Contractors Consortium.

Carol Gunn, manager of strategic projects at CASE, said: "This visit was a great opportunity for Ms Durkin to meet local businesses in the north and find out about the range of activities and diverse markets that they operate in. It also offered local businesses an excellent chance to meet a director from the DTI and raise and discuss an array of significant issues with her."
