Rhoda Grant MSP Urges Customers to Claim Power Cut Compensation
2nd February 2015
Highlands and Islands (Scottish Labour) MSP, Rhoda Grant is encouraging SSE customers across the Highlands and Islands who lost power for a consecutive 48 hour period or more, between the 9th and 12th January 2015, due to the exceptional weather conditions to make a claim for a compensation payment.
Commenting Mrs. Grant said "SSE and the hundreds of linemen who were out working in tough conditions through the cold and rain to restore power to peoples homes did a great job, with the majority of homes who had lost power being reconnected as quickly as possible.
"Due to the extreme nature of the weather and the hurricane force winds that battered the north last month it did mean that a small number of homes may have gone without a power supply for a consecutive 48 hour period, and those affected should use their right to claim for a compensation payment.
“SSE have made it clear that anyone who was without a supply for a consecutive 48 hour period or more due to the storms should contact them either through their on-line form, through e-mail or for those without internet access by giving them a call and I would encourage people who are eligible to do so."
SSE have stated that all claims for compensation will be validated against their records and automatically paid via cheque, where successful claims should be paid within 6 weeks.
