Caithness, Sutherland and Ross Labour candidate Leah Francetti Attacks SNP On Education
16th March 2016
SNP Inspired Council Cuts Budget will ruin education provision in Caithness, Sutherland and Ross says Labour candidate Leah Francetti.
Holyrood candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, Leah Franchetti, says cuts Education Budget for the Highland Council area will have lasting and damaging effect on many Highland children.
At the same time, the Skills for Work budget is to be cut and the Councils own report states this, may impact negatively on attainment levels of young people in Highland and young people may not have the appropriate skills for the work.
The budget for supply teachers is also to be slashed meaning that classes may not be covered and in the worst cases,
classes will be sent home.
Leah Franchetti, a former teacher and Scottish Labour Candidate said, There is no justification for hurting and limiting the life chances of the next generation. The SNP Government want to sit in Edinburgh and pretend that these cuts have nothing to do with them. But their own poverty Tsar tells them that the Council Tax freeze is harming the vulnerable in our communities. The SNP inspired draft budget for education in the Highland's is a recipe for disaster. Our dedicated Highland school staff are trying to close the attainment gap, but the removal of nursery teachers, reduction in staff numbers and cuts to skills for work support are retrograde and damaging proposals. We must fight to protect school staffing levels - and these ruinous cuts cannot be justified.
