"I have lived in Caithness for over 13 years and work at Dounreay. For most of my working life I have been a Trade Union member and activist. I am also a Community Councillor for Thurso.

I am passionate about supporting and helping others and cannot ignore inequalities or injustices. It is for these reasons that I have got involved in a number of different roles and groups in and outside of the workplace. I care about the area that I live and work in and the issues facing local people.

I want to see an open and constructive Council that works with the people to benefit the people.

I am standing for election as a local councillor as I want to ensure the views of local people and community interests are taken into account when decisions are made; ensure the community gets the right services it needs; and be involved in shaping the future of the community. For me, becoming more involved is a legitimate way to influence change and to make a difference. I also want to give voters an opportunity to vote Green.

We have no whip system because we believe that consensus decision-making, and a right to dissent, is much healthier than following a party line. That means, if elected, I would serve the community as my first priority.

As a councillor I will stand up for issues such as investment in and protecting public and rural services (housing, schools, hospitals, transport etc.) and jobs, reducing social isolation & inequalities and building strong vibrant communities.

I will also stand for a renewed local democracy, where we put local communities at the heart of local decision-making so that they are empowered to make decisions on issues which affect them."
