Eu Delegation In Inverness TO Help SME's Become More Globally Competitive

21st June 2017

More than 20 academics, policy-makers and stakeholders from across Europe are in Inverness this week to share ideas on policies to help small to medium enterprises (SMEs) become more globally competitive.

The ‘EU Clusters3 Interregional Conference and Workshop' has been organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and takes place at Eden Court from 19 to 21 June.

The EU cluster programme provides learning, tools and information linked to key European initiatives, actions and events for industry clusters and their SMEs.

Delegates from Spain, Northern Ireland, Italy, Hungary, Latvia, Poland and Sweden will discuss the challenges of shaping policy on a regional and national level.

Speakers include Dr James Wilson from the Basque Institute of Competitiveness; Dr Emily Wise, Researcher at Lund University Sweden; Jonas Bergholm and Marc Schildt from CLUSTERIX2.0.

Graeme Ambrose (CEO) from world class destination management organisation, VisitLochNess, and Donna Chisholm, HIE’s regional head of sectors, innovation and programmes are also taking part.

Donna Chisholm said: "We will be talking about our region’s experience and about various support programmes delivered by HIE across the region and how all of this feeds into policy and programme development.

“The conference is also an opportunity to hear how other regions are developing clusters to be more competitive."

The delegates will get to visit Inverness Campus, one of the most ambitious projects in Scotland. HIE is developing the Campus as a nationally and internationally significant location for business, research and education.
