New Bridge To Link Inverness Campus And Retail Park

A new bridge is to be installed linking the north end of Inverness Campus with Inverness Business and Retail Park.



The bridge will cross the main Inverness-Perth railway line and enable access for pedestrians, cyclists and buses.

It was a planning condition when consent was granted for the Campus in 2011 with the requirement to have it in place before 50,000 sq m of the site is occupied.

With this milestone now in sight, HIE is progressing plans to have the bridge in place by the end of 2018.

The HIE Board approved a total of £2.25 million spend for the project. This includes £700,000 from sustainable transport charity, SUSTRANS, and £88,000 from The Highland Council.

Ruaraidh MacNeil, HIE's project director for Inverness Campus, said:

"This is about enhancing green travel options to and from Inverness Campus, one of Scotland's most ambitious projects.

"The Campus design has prioritised accessibility for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.

“There is already a bridge and path for cyclists and pedestrians linking the south of the Campus to the Inverness Retail and Business Park.

“The North Bridge will expand this access to link with the north end of the Campus and provide access for buses. We expect the project to take 12 to 18 months to complete."

Inverness Campus is one of Scotland’s most ambitious projects. Its development is led by HIE to support the further expansion of some of the region’s key sectors and has a Scottish Government designation as an Enterprise Area for Life Sciences.

The site has been specifically designed to encourage collaboration between business, research and academia, both within the campus and with neighbouring organisations such as LifeScan Scotland, Raigmore Hospital and the Centre for Health Science.
