CAREERS CONVENTION HOSTED BY CAREERS SCOTLAND - THE ASSEMBLY ROOMS WICK ON WEDNESDAY 12TH MARCH 2008 FROM 6.00PM TO 8.30PM

People living in Caithness are being offered expert advice and information on taking the next step in their careers.

The Careers Convention will be held on Wednesday 12th March 2008 in the Assembly Rooms in Wick, and will offer people of all age's comprehensive information on careers, employment, training and education.

The event, organised by Careers Scotland in Thurso, will bring universities, colleges, training providers and employers all under one roof.

More than 40 organisations and businesses will be at the event which will run from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. Pupils from Wick, Thurso and Farr High Schools are expected to attend, and people from the wider community are invited to the event including parents/carers and adults who are looking for ideas and support.

Each exhibitor will have their own display area and attendees will be free to visit as many organisations as they want, talk to their representatives and take home information and advice. A wide range of courses, jobs and training opportunities will be represented across many sectors including the armed services, police, construction, local apprenticeships, chartered surveyors, plumbing, hospitality, hairdressing, motor industry and many more.

Careers Scotland advisers will also be on hand to provide impartial careers information, also information on the wide range of career planning services that Careers Scotland can offer to help individuals achieve their career goals and aspirations. Visitors can make a follow up appointment with a Careers Scotland Adviser, who use various venues in the Sutherland area.

As young people across the Highlands and Islands anxiously await their exam results, Careers Scotland is urging pupils to remain calm and take advantage of the Exam Results Helpline.   Exam results will be posted throughout Scotland in August, and experts from Careers Scotland will be on standby to reassure callers and provide impartial advice.
