Moray Council Sets Out Possible Big Cuts For 2018/19

MORAY Council's budget proposals are now publicly available for viewing and comment.

The savings, which have been suggested to balance the 2018-19 budget, are expected to save the council £6.7 million.

Now residents are being urged to take part in the discussion, which will run until 14 January, before the budget is formally set in February 2018.

More details, including a downloadable 'Budget 2018' guide - which outlines the proposed savings - can be found on Moray Council's website: www.moray.gov.uk/budget2018.

Hard copies of the guide will be available at Access Points and libraries across Moray, as well as response forms for residents to feed back on the proposals.

Undoubtedly 2018/19 will be one of the hardest budgets ever to hit people in Moray. The choices are stark with reductions across many areas of services. Today they announced that about 100 staff will go very soon including senior management posts.

Councillor George Alexander, Leader of Moray council said in his statement to the budget proposals "Through no fault of our own, we, the people of Moray, are standing at the edge of a financial precipice and we need all the help we can get to negotiate the changes which must be made in order to maintain high standards of service along with a balanced budget."

Audit Scotland have pointed out that Moray council is one of a few councils that have been eating into reserves in recent years to maintain services but that cannot continue for much longer.
