As part of a long term development project to secure larger contracts and increase productivity, Geddes Window Systems Ltd (GWS), is reorganising their factory space and buying a range of new specialised equipment.

GWS manufactures timber framed windows and doors from its factory in Halkirk, Caithness. Its employs 43 people and exports its products throughout the UK.

The factory expansion project has total costs of £384,100, with Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE) investing £96,000 in the project, which will create seven new jobs.

The expansion will increase the company's productivity, efficiency and flexibility as well as broadening and updating the range of products they offer. It will give them the capacity to secure and deliver large contracts for clients such as local authorities and housing associations.

Raymond Bremner, quality assurance manager, for GWS, said: "This redevelopment is part of our ongoing plan to increase the company's productivity. We have already increased the number of employees in the past year by 15 and this expansion will aim to secure their continued employment and create another seven new jobs.

"We have seen an increase in production by 38 per cent over the past year and are confident that the development plan will allow us to further increase manufacturing capacity by almost 50 per cent."

Commenting on the expansion Caroline Reilly, development manager with CASE, said: "GWS is a major manufacturing company in Caithness and through this significant investment CASE is keen to help the company become even more competitive, encourage innovation and support the development of new products."
