Chancellor Announces Help For 28 Million Families On Energy Price Rise

Energy Cap rises to £1971 in April so the UK government is stepping in with help.

Price of gas on the world market has quadrupled. Surging demand in other countries after the pandemic.

Many suppliers have gone out of business.

It is not sustainable to keep price artificially low but the sting can be taken out.

28 milloin house hold to be help at cost £9billion

Spread worst of extra cost over time
Discount worth £200 from October rapid in equal £40 instalment over 5 years.

Council tax rebate of £150 not to be repaid.
To bands A to D in England

Discretionary payments to councils for other help.

Expanding Warm Homes discount.

$3billion to help lower in come homes become more energy efficient.

Barnet consequential for devolved administrations so Scottish Parliament has some decisions to make.

Lower income families help will be up to £350 - the range is £200 to £350 for "8 million families.
