Thinking Of Investing? Make Sure You Are Prepared To Invest Safely
30th March 2022
Fraud Advice from Royal Bank of Scotland.
In the first 6 months of 2021 more than 107m GBP was lost to fake investments in the UK. These scams are highly convincing, so consider the following before investing:
- Always seek reputable, independent financial advice from someone regulated to provide it. Never take advice from a company on the back of an unsolicited call.
- Always use the FCA Register to check the firm is authorised to provide investments and to verify their contact details. If they're not on there, it's probably a scam.
- Watch out for adverts on social media and at the top of the search engine results - some use fake celebrity endorsements. Just because they appear there doesn't mean they're genuine.
- Head to our Security Centre page to find more information on how to protect yourself and invest safely.
Following the above tips could be the difference between making a safe investment and losing your life savings to a scam.
