Afternoon party marks official opening of Lochbroom House
Lochbroom House, a care home for 11 older people in Ullapool, was officially reopened yesterday (Tuesday 6th July) following a £1.4 million refurbishment. The centre is the ninth Council care home to be refurbished under its £3.5 million programme of improvements.
Improvements carried out include the provision of improved facilities for disabled people throughout the building, redecoration and renewal of the carpets, some major items of maintenance and the installation of a bio-mass boiler which will help the Council to meet its carbon reduction targets.
Chairman of the Housing and Social work Committee, Councillor Margaret Davidson joining residents, staff and friends for an afternoon tea to mark the official reopening. She said: "This investment underlines our commitment to providing the best care possible for our older people in rural communities. I am delighted that Lochbroom House has once again opened its doors and I am sure the residents and staff will enjoy their improved surroundings. I would like to thank everyone involved in the work and also praise the staff and residents for their patience and understanding while the refurbishment was taking place."
The work was carried out by Morrison Construction. During the refurbishment, residents and day centre attendees were successfully relocated to the Ullapool Hotel to be cared for by staff from Lochbroom House.
Other homes to have benefited from an upgrade are:- Bayview House, Thurso; Seaforth House, Golspie; Dail Mhor, Strontian; Melvich Community Care Unit; Strathburn House, Gairloch; the MacKintosh Centre, Mallaig, Pulteney House, Wick, and The Telford Centre, Fort Augustus.

Plans to invest up to £60m new Capital in Highland roads and infrastructure have been approved by Members at the Council meeting on 14 March 2024. The decision will see an additional £40m Capital investment in roads and transport infrastructure.
