A team of Construction students from Inverness College UHI have laid the foundations for a successful career in the construction industry by clinching first prize at the annual Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Student Challenge in Perth - the fifth time that an Inverness College team has taken the top spot.

The HND students triumphed over teams from Glasgow Caledonian University, Heriot-Watt University, Robert Gordon University and other Scottish colleges with their technical and general knowledge of the construction industry, as well as their team project which was to produce a design brief for a proposed commercial and leisure development. The team will now go on to represent Scotland in the UK finals in London in April.

Angus Macleod, Head of School of Construction and Forestry at Inverness College, said: "I am very proud that our students have consistently outshone the talent from other Scottish institutions in this competition over the years. Inverness College students first won the competition in 1996, and have also won four times in the past five years, reflecting the fine efforts of our students and the quality of learning and teaching within our UHI Colleges."
