Police seize around 200 sets of kitchen knives following searches in Inverness

Police in Inverness have seized approximately 200 sets of kitchen knives in a series of vehicle searches across the city yesterday.

Acting on reports from the public about people offering items for sale on doorsteps on Wednesday, November 15, officers from the Flexible Policing Team carried out three searches in different locations in Inverness.

As a result, approximately 200 knife sets and other kitchen equipment was seized over the course of the day.

Ten people - men aged 60, 48, 27, 27, 21, 21, 21 and 18 and women aged 46 and 16 - have been charged in connection with the recoveries.

They will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for licensing offences.

Constable Michael Clark from the Flexible Policing Team said: "I'm grateful to the numerous members of the public who reported their concerns yesterday which allowed to take action.

"We are liaising with our partners in Trading Standards as part of an ongoing enquiry following these recoveries.

"I would take the opportunity to remind people not to deal with people who arrive on their doorsteps unannounced offering goods or services.

"Always be sure of who you are dealing with and report any concerns to Police Scotland on 101."

Mark McGinty, Highland Council's Trading Standards Team Leader added: "Highland Trading Standards supports Police Scotland to protect communities from doorstep crime.

"You should never agree to pay for goods or give money to strangers who arrive at your door.

"If someone visits you and you think they’re a doorstep criminal, then phone the police on 101."
