Government Acts To Protect Jobs In Every Part Of The UK
Measures will protect the UK's economy by preventing new burdens on business and provide certainty to support coronavirus recovery.   New plans ensure trade between each part of the UK will prosper Holyrood, Cardiff and Stormont will receive new powers in at least 70 policy areas including parts of employment law, land use and air quality, among many others.

Care home staff are still not receiving sick pay putting clients and staff at risk, says UNISON
Many care home staff are still not receiving the sick pay, months after they were promised they would by the Scottish government, putting staff and residents at risk says the trade union for care workers.   Home care workers entitlement to full sick pay was included in emergency coronavirus legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament.

Serco NorthLink Ferries has been operating a revised service during Phase 1 and 2 of lockdown, which has provided travel for key workers as well as essential islander and freight connectivity between the Northern Isles and mainland Scotland.   During the period 22 March to 30 June, passenger numbers across all routes were 6,010 in comparison to 112,416 over the same period in 2019, representing a reduction of 95 per cent.

Advance notice of temporary closures affecting two Sutherland roads
The Highland Council is advising drivers in Sutherland that two temporary road closures will be in place from the start of August to enable SSE and Network Rail to carry out works.   Part of the U2437 Trentham Street in Helmsdale will be temporarily closed to all traffic from 8am on Monday 3 August until 10pm on Friday 4 September for SSE to carry out works.

MV Kaami, a general cargo vessel salvaged six miles off the northwest coast of Skye, Scotland after running aground in March, has been dismantled and recycled in Kishorn.   Built in 1994, the 89.8-meter vessel, owned by Norway's Misje Rederi, was sailing under the flag of Bahamas when it ran aground on March 23 this year.

New campaign to help people get the healthcare they need.   People are being asked to continue following the public health guidance issued during the first phase of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by using their local pharmacy, GP practice, local minor injuries unit or NHS 24 to get advice and help when they need medical care.

Council Leader welcomes 60 new jobs at Inverness Campus
The Leader of The Highland Council has welcomed the announcement by medical technology company "ODx" that it is expanding its centre for scientific excellence at Inverness Campus and creating up to 60 additional jobs.   Council Leader, Cllr Margaret Davidson said: "This is great news for Inverness and the Highlands that ODx are creating new jobs for the region, at a time of huge economic impact due to COVID-19.
