The first orbital spaceflight from the United Kingdom has come a step closer following the Highland Council's decision to give the go-ahead for the Space Hub Sutherland spaceport.  Orbex, the UK-based space launch company, has confirmed that Orbex Prime will be the first vertical launch vehicle to fly into orbit from the Space Hub, which will be constructed near Melness on the northern coast of Scotland.

Highland Businesses Urged To Apply For Support Before Covid-19 Grant Scheme Closes
Highland businesses who may be entitled to grant support to help them as they prepare to safely reopen are being encouraged to apply before new 10 July deadline.   The COVID-19 business grant schemes, which was set up by the Scottish Government to help companies stay in business during the coronavirus crisis, have now paid out over £66,000,000 to almost 6500 Highland businesses.

Council Leader requests meeting on future of Wick Airport
The Leader of The Highland Council has written to the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson MSP, raising her deepest concerns over Eastern Airways decision to withdraw their Wick - Aberdeen Service.   The decision by Eastern Airways follows Loganair's earlier decision to withdraw its Wick-Edinburgh route, which now leaves Wick John O'Groats Airport with no commercial services operating.

Further Route Map Detail Announced - Dates For Re-opening
Indicative dates for Phase 2 and early Phase 3 measures announced to help planning.   Provisional dates for the relaxation of travel restrictions, restarting of the hospitality industry and reopening of hairdressers are among further route map measures announced today (Wednesday 24, June) by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Phased reintroduction of family visiting and communal activities for residents.   Care home residents will be able to receive visitors outside from 3 July, provided their home meets strict criteria, with infection control measures remaining in place.

£257.6 million to help tackle COVID-19 approved by Parliament.   Almost £258 million of additional funding for vital local services, such as food provision for those in need, education and social care, has been approved by the Scottish Parliament.

England - Plans To Ease Guidance For Over 2 Million Shielding
Millions of people shielding from coronavirus (COVID-19) in England will be advised they can spend more time outside their homes from Monday 6 July, the Health and Social Care Secretary has announced.   Advisory guidance to be eased for 2.2 million clinically extremely vulnerable people across England, as virus infection rates continue to fall.

Brexit in England - Student Support For Universities In England
Eligibility rules for EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals, and their family members, who wish to commence courses in England in the Academic Year starting in August 2021 are changing.   EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals will no longer be eligible for home fee status, undergraduate, postgraduate and advanced learner financial support from Student Finance England for courses starting in academic year 2021/22.
