Caithness is set to have improved connections including to London, Manchester and Birmingham as Flybe aligns its Wick John O'Groats - Aberdeen service to the wider UK network operated from Aberdeen.   Flybe franchise partner, Eastern Airways, will re-time its flights from 12 November 2018 by offering a 12.45pm departure (Monday to Thursday) from Aberdeen that links with Flybe's northbound services from London Heathrow, London City, Manchester and Birmingham along with the southbound flight from Wick at 1.45pm linking with the afternoon London-bound flights.

Illicit cigarettes uncovered by Highland Trading Standards with help from two four-legged friends
Thousands of illicit cigarettes have been uncovered by Highland Council's Trading Standards Officers with a little help from two specially-trained, four-legged detectives.   Spaniels Dixie and Daisy from Consumer Protection Dogs were enlisted by the region's Trading Standards team to detect the smell of tobacco.

Developer Contributions Supplementary Guidance Adopted in Highland
The Highland Council has announced the publication of updated guidance on financial contributions required from new developments towards new infrastructure and services.   The Developer Contributions Supplementary Guidance now forms part of the Council's Development Plan which is used to determine planning applications in Highland.

The Highland Council and partners HITRANS and NHS Highland have welcomed £1.6m awarded this week (Wednesday, 31 October 2018) from Transport Scotland's Low Carbon Travel and Transport (LCTT) Challenge Fund.   The funding has been warmly received by partner agencies for their Low Carbon and Active Travel Hub project in Inverness which is being match funded by Highland Council £265,000; NHS Highland £40,000 and HITRANS £15,000.  
Dounreay Socio Economic Plan 2018/19 - 2021/22
The Dounreay Socio Economic Plan sets out the main activities to be undertaken by the Dounreay Socio Economic Alliance (DSEA) which consists of Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Cavendish Dounreay Partnership (CDP) and Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL.   DSEA's activities are based on support to mitigate the economic impacts of the decommissioning of the Dounreay site.

Offering flexibility to Universal Credit recipients
Nearly one in two people in receipt of Universal Credit in Scotland has chosen for their payments to be paid in a different way when offered the choice by the Scottish Government.   While Universal Credit is reserved to the UK Government, Scottish Ministers have used their limited powers in this area to enable people to receive payments more frequently and/or for the housing cost in their payment to be made directly to their landlords, which should help reduce rent arrears and evictions.

Non-domestic Rates Relief Statistics For Small Businesses In Scotland 2018
The number of recipients of the Small Business Bonus Scheme (SBBS) relief has increased by 15% in the latest year, from 104,000 in 2017/18 to 119,000 in 2018/19.   Scotland's Chief Statistician today published Non-domestic Rates Relief Statistics for Small Businesses in Scotland 2018.

Scotland's GDP growth confirmed at 0.5% in 2018 Quarter 2
The Scottish economy grew by 0.5% during the second quarter of 2018, according to updated statistics announced today by Scotland's Chief Statistician.  The headline growth rate is unrevised from the first estimate published on 19 September.

More support for aspiring headteachers
A range of measures to encourage more teachers to take up leadership roles in education has been agreed by Scottish Government.   The headteacher recruitment working group - comprising government, professional groups and unions - has recommended actions to support existing headteachers, and help other teachers move towards leadership roles and promote routes to headship.
