Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 6 September 2018
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 6th) sold 8,837 store lambs.   Cheviot lambs averaged £43.72 (-£1.13 on the year) and sold to £130 gross for a pen of ram lambs from Burnbank, Isle of Canna.

Highland Council Considers Planning For 3-year Budget Gap
The Highland Council has agreed to plan for a potential budget gap of £66.7 million over the next three years.   It was agreed by Members in June to develop plans for a multi-year budget for the next 3 financial years (2019-22) to meet the challenge of a potential funding gap dependent on a wide range of variables.

Members have discussed the consultation and proposed response to a review of the structure of the Scottish Local Government Pension Scheme.   The Highland Council Pension Fund is one of eleven constituent funds of the Scottish Local Government Pension Scheme.

Council seeks new staff to ensure Highland's children get the best start in life
The Highland Council is looking for experienced staff or existing managers to drive the Early Learning and Childcare initiative forward, to ensure our youngest children get the best start in life and are ready to succeed.   The Council will be almost doubling the provision of early learning and childcare over the next two years.

Chinese traders must pay fair postal charges or more British retailers will collapse, says ParcelHero
As the Universal Postal Union meets to decide the secret rates each country must pay for cross border deliveries, international parcels expert ParcelHero says China must be forced to pay its fair share.   The international parcel delivery specialist ParcelHero says every year hundreds of British traders are going bust as they can't compete with ultra-cheap Chinese imports, whose postal costs are subsidised by the UK and US postal services, thanks to secret rates arranged by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Scottish Household Survey 2017
Concern about climate change is at a record high, according to findings of the Scottish Household Survey 2017.   The annual survey found that 61% of people believe that climate change is an immediate and urgent problem - an increase of 6 percentage points in a single year - and just 7% think climate change will only affect other countries.

Green Transport Funding Pledge
Ahead of unveiling her Programme for Government, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced £16.7 million additional funding to help Scotland lead the way in transforming to a low carbon country.   Last year's Programme for Government committed to set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the electrification of the road network, with the aim of removing the need for new petrol or diesel cars or vans on Scotland’s roads by 2032.

Knowing What To Expect From Care Workers
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has produced a leaflet, What to expect from your care worker, to let people know what type of behaviour and values they can expect from their care worker and what to do if they have a concern.  The leaflets will be available in all GP surgeries in Scotland from September.

Spotlight on Skye tourism challenges
The increasing challenges of the Isle of Skye tourism industry were discussed today at Highland Council's Isle of Skye and Raasay Committee during a report to Councillors by the Council's Principal Tourism Officer, Colin Simpson.   Mr Simpson outlined the Council’s role in tourism; presented figures on the level of Skye tourism and updated Members on the Council’s initial and proposed bids to the Scottish Government’s Rural Infrastructure Fund.

Caithness And North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership - Update
Week commencing 27 August 2018 UKVL Sutherland: Today (Friday) marks Roy Kirk's last day as Area Manager for HIE in Caithness and Sutherland, as he will move next week to become full-time director for the Sutherland Spaceport project.  Following Roy's move I have been offered (and have accepted) the role of acting Area Manager for Caithness and Sutherland, which in the short term I will take forward in addition to my CNSRP work.
