Scottish shortbread makers, confectioners and bakeries could benefit from support to combat shortages and rising prices in the butter market.   The Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society (SAOS) will undertake an urgent feasibility study to explore opportunities for collective buying and storage, to increase market competitiveness and boost sales.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (October, 6th) sold 136 rams at its annual show and sale of Blackface rams, sponsored by PKN Nutrition and Scottish Woodlands.   The overall champion was a shearling from Messrs MacDonald, Dalbuiack, Carrbridge, realising £1,000 to Mrs M.

Week commencing 25 September 2017 Tourism, Food and Drink: · Last weekend saw the staging of the annual "Taste North" event organised at Ackergill Tower by Venture North with support from a range of organisations including CNSRP partner the NDA.  Despite the less than ideal weather, the event attracted a record number of visitors (around 1,000), and a range of food, drink and tourism companies from across the north, and featured a range of activities and demonstrations, including masterclasses with renowned chef Nick Nairn.

Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale 4 October 2017
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 4th) sold 496 weaned calves at their first annual district ballot show and sale.   The show champion sponsored by Barclays Transport, Portsoy and Zoetis with Surecalf was awarded to an eight month old Limousin cross bullock from A MacLean, 4 Bualnaluib, Aultbea scaling in at 305kg and realising £800 gross.

Households, workers, the unemployed, and small and large businesses in the Highlands and Islands are being called on by local MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston to share their views as the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee launches its inquiry into the performance of Scotland's economy since 2007.   In a year marking a range of anniversaries, including a decade since the financial crash, 20 years since the devolution vote; and the tenth anniversary of SNP Government, the Committee will scrutinise Scotland's economy, looking at issues such as the main drivers of growth and challenges to future growth; as well as average disposable income, and average weekly pay in Scotland.

Up To £96 Million Support To Help People Find Work In Scotland
Contracts worth up to £96 million have been awarded to organisations across Scotland to help people find and stay in work.   From April 2018 the new Fair Start Scotland service will aim to help at least 38,000 people, to find employment, including those facing barriers to entering the labour market.

£322,068 More To Support NHS Highland Winter Plans
An additional £5 million is being given to NHS boards to support winter resilience across health and social care.   Health Secretary Shona Robison announced the additional‎ funding today to support winter planning and enhance resilience across the services, making sure patients are seen quickly, efficiently and without delay.

Next steps for city region deals outlined
The Scottish Government will support the creation of regional economic partnerships across Scotland as a vehicle to drive inclusive economic growth, Economy Secretary Keith Brown has confirmed.   As outlined in the Enterprise and Skills Review, the expansion of the regional economic policy beyond city deals will pave the way for regional economic partnerships for every part of Scotland.

Scottish Government Says No To Fracking
The Scottish Government has announced that it will not support the development of Unconventional Oil and Gas in Scotland, meaning there is an effective ban on fracking in Scotland.   Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, Paul Wheelhouse told MSPs the decision followed an extensive period of evidence gathering, public engagement, and dialogue on the issue.

Caithness Civic Leader Cllr Willie Mackay has welcomed the reopening of the B876 Killimster Moss Road.   A stretch of the Caithness Wick to Thurso road at Killimster Moss was refurbished over a four week programme of improvement and reopened on Friday 29 September.

£1 million for school libraries over 3 years
The Scottish Government is allocating £1 million to improve school libraries over the next three years.   Launched today by the Deputy First Minister, the School Library Improvement Fund will be open for education authorities to apply for funding on behalf of school libraries in their area.

Rise In Renewable Electricity
Scotland is on track for a record year of renewable electricity generation, with output in the first half of 2017 17% greater than the same period in 2016.   New figures published today by the UK Government's Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy show that Scotland continues to lead the way in renewables, delivering the equivalent of 54% of Scotland's gross electricity consumption in 2016.
