Record Number Of Students From Deprived Areas At University
The number of Scots from the most deprived areas enrolling at Scottish universities is at a new record high.   Higher Education Student Statistics, published today, show a new overall record number of students enrolling in Scottish institutions - an increase of 8.6% compared to last year.

International Travel Restrictions Eased - Most people will not need to take a test
Following agreement at a cross-UK meeting earlier today, testing requirements for fully vaccinated people arriving in Scotland are to be dropped and further work will be done on a new surveillance system to monitor the border.   Testing will no longer be a requirement for all adults who have completed a full course of an approved vaccine, usually at least two doses.

Highland Council To Establish Short Term Lets Licensing Scheme In 2022
The Scottish Government approved the short term lets legislation on Wednesday 19 January 2022.   The Highland Council now have a duty to establish a short term let licensing scheme by 1 October 2022.

Raigmore Ward 7a in Inverness is closed to new admissions and essential visitors following the detection of a small number of Norovirus cases.   Patients are being clinically assessed and monitored with normal in-patient care continuing.

High Street stores shouldn't crack open the remaining champagne, after record decline
New retail sales figures from the Office for National Statistics show a climb in the overall value of sales in December 2021 over December 2020, while online sales values tumbled.  But the underlying numbers are far less healthy for the High Street, warns ParcelHero December's retail sales figures, released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), show a climb of 5.7% YOY in the value of retail sales, while online sales fell back by -8.3% YOY.
