Supporting Fair Work Practices - Real Living Wage conditionality for winning public sector contracts
Companies bidding to win Scottish Government contracts will have to pay the real Living Wage.   This will ensure public sector contracts tackle in work poverty and promote fair work practices across the public, private and third sector where there is a risk of low pay.

Funding To Tackle Marine Litter
Project sees fishers remove debris from the ocean.   A project to help remove harmful litter in our seas and raise awareness of its environmental impact is set for expansion after receiving almost £180,000 of funding from the Marine Fund Scotland.

Council Chosen As Pathfinder In Scottish Government's Green Growth Accelerator Programme
Highland Council has been officially named as one of the pathfinder organisations in the Scottish Government's recently announced Green Growth Accelerator programme.   The first projects to benefit from the programme, which is driving investment in low carbon infrastructure, were announced on Friday by Just Transition Minister Richard Lochhead.

A £7.4m project to rebuild Shetland's world-renowned bird observatory on Fair Isle takes a step forward today (Monday 11 October) as Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Scottish Government announce a funding package worth £2.35million.   The project, which is led by Fair Isle Bird Observatory Trust (FIBOT), will create seven new green jobs, help to sustain the island's population and meet the community's aspirations to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Rural Firms Encouraged To Take Part In New Business Survey
Businesses in rural areas across Scotland are being encouraged to take part in a new Rural Business Panel survey, which gets underway this week.   More than 2,700 firms are to be contacted for their views on topics such as economic confidence, business performance and optimism, as well as current concerns such as financing, increased costs, supply chain issues and labour challenges.

Provisional Results Show Increase In Scottish Agricultural Production For 2021
The latest 2021 figures released by the Scottish Government predict a good year for cereal production.  Total cereal production is expected to be around 3.1 million tonnes.

Time To Get Ready For Self Assessment
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is reminding Self Assessment customers to check that they have the correct information in order to complete their tax return.   The deadline for 2020/21 tax returns is 31 October 2021 for those completed on paper forms and 31 January 2022 for online returns.
