More Than 240,000 EU Citizens Able To Stay In Scotland - Deadline To Apply 30 June 2021
Concern that many have still to apply.   With less than a month to go to apply, more than a quarter of a million applications have been made by EU Citizens to remain in Scotland.

Australian Trade Deal Could Slash Tariffs On Whisky And Boost Scottish Industry
Trade deal with Australia could boost Scottish industries like financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and food and drink.   A UK-Australia trade deal could include a major boost for Scotch whisky producers with the removal of a 5% tariff on whisky exports, the Department for International Trade has revealed today (Thursday 3rd June).

Plan For Jobs Is Working With 1.3 Million Employees Moving Off Furlough In March And April
Furlough numbers have fallen to their lowest level this year, according to official statistics published today, as the number of people relying on the scheme fell to 3.4 million.   1.3 million fewer employees accessed the furlough scheme in March and April according to new data showing our focus on jobs continues to pay off.

The Highland Council is supporting the second phase of the national award-wining Scotland is Stunning - Let's Keep It That Way litter prevention campaign.   First launched last year to coincide with tourism re-opening in Scotland, the campaign by Zero Waste Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Government and Keep Scotland Beautiful, aims to raise awareness of the harm done by littering, encouraging Scots to change their habits by taking their litter home or binning it.

Àirigh - Motorhome Stopover Sites Possible In Highland
The Highland Council is believed to be the first local authority in the UK to temporarily relax licensing regulations to enable landowners with suitable sites to provide continental style motorhome stopovers known as ‘Aire' - Àirigh (meaning Shieling in Gaelic).   Highland Council is adapting to the significant increase of motorhome ownership in the UK and the demand for self-contained holidays by creating an opportunity to offer small, simple and low-cost short stopovers for motorhome visitors.

Highland Council Welcomes Today's Announcement From The Cabinet Secretary For Education And Skills
The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Shirley-Anne Somerville, announced today to the Scottish Parliament the details of the appeals system that will support this year's Alternative Model for Certification for young people studying for Scottish Qualification courses at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level.   Young people will be empowered to indicate their intention to appeal from 25 June, based on certain criteria.

Virtual school initiative gains national recognition
Three colleges in the University of the Highlands and Islands partnership have been recognised with a national award for their use of technology to deliver courses to secondary school pupils in remote and rural areas across the Highland Council region.   West Highland College UHI, North Highland College UHI and Inverness College UHI were named winners of the ‘Outstanding Use of Technology in Delivering Remote Teaching and Learning' Award at the Tes FE Awards on Friday 28 May 2021.

Coronavirus Covid-19 Protection Levels: What You Can Do - Highland Level One From 5 June 2021
At Level 1:.   you can meet socially in groups: of up to 6 people from 3 households in your home or theirs - and can stay overnight of up to 8 people from 3 households in an indoor public place like a cafe, pub or restaurant of up to 12 people from 12 households outdoors in your garden or a public place under 12s do not count towards the total number of people or households meeting outside but do count towards the number of households indoors you do not need to physically distance from family and friends in a private home you can travel anywhere in Scotland in Levels 0, 1 or 2 but must not enter a Level 3 or 4 area unless for a permitted reason.
