Highlands & Islands (including Moray ) MSP, David Stewart, who is campaigning to keep the Inverness Disease Surveillance Centre open at the SRuC, Drummond Hill facility in the city, is delighted that his efforts are being supported by people from far and wide. Speaking this afternoon David Stewart said " Behind the scenes there are a lot of people working very hard to make sure that the proposals from those on high at the Scottish Rural College are not supported, because frankly they are not thought through and they are at risk of putting disease control backwards". "John Kinnaird, author of the Kinnaird Review of Veterinary Surveillance, has called the plan ‘utter lunacy'. "I fundamentally oppose a planned closure of the Inverness DSC without having an alternative there" stated John Kinnaird. He went on to say “ Closing the Inverness site is utter lunacy and is nothing but setting Scotland's disease surveillance backwards, not forwards". “As part of this campaign I set up an i-petition and after just four working days 573 people have signed it.” “ A week Friday (10/7/15) is the closing day for people wishing to make their views known to the person carrying out the review and I would ask all concerned to do just that by writing to Brian Hosie, Head of SAC Consulting Veterinary Services at mailto:brian.hosie[AT]sac.co.uk or on 0131 535 3139”.
