Highland Council's Leader and Chair of Planning, Development and Infrastructure have reinforced the Council's commitment to working with the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland and partners to find a solution to the upgrading of the Berriedale Braes on the A9 in Caithness. This was discussed at a recent meeting (16 June 2015) at Council headquarters in Inverness attended by Councillor Audrey Sinclair and officials from The Highland Council and Transport Scotland. Chair of the Council’s Planning, Development and Infrastructure Committee Councillor Audrey Sinclair said: "Highland Council has led the campaign to identify solutions on the A9 Trunk Road at Berriedale Braes. In 2012 the Council, HITRANS and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority approved contributions totalling £220,000 to the final detailed design stage of a project to realign the hairpin bend at Berriedale. "Transport Scotland appointed a project designer, and in 2014 a preferred scheme design was publicly consulted upon. In November 2014, Transport Scotland published road orders and the agency has indicated that there is a landowner objection to the current proposals and should this not be resolved there will be a Public Inquiry." Councillor Sinclair added: “We are keen to see early progress on this important project for Caithness and Orkney and will seek a further meeting with Scottish Government Ministers in early course."
