The Highland LEADER programme is now open for groups to apply for funding. LEADER is an EU fund that aims to promote economic and community development in rural areas.
In Caithness, decisions will be made by the local area group for applications up to 50,000. Applications over 50,000 will be decided at Highland level.

The overall aim of the LEADER programme in Caithness is to enable people to realise their ambitions and live in communities where they can fulfil their personal, social and economic potential. Applications are open to constituted groups, social enterprises, public agencies and private individuals.

There are eight themes. These are:
Local development strategies.
Culture and heritage.
Training and learning opportunities.
Access to activities, facilities and services.
Land, environment and access to the countryside.
Social enterprise and micro-businesses.
