I am delighted to be able to put myself forward as an Independent candidate for Thurso.

I grew up in Wick and my father was from Castletown and my mother from Halkirk. So my family have deep-routed connections with Caithness.

For the past eight years I have been a Member of Caithness West Community Council and I continue in this role, resolving and raising any concerns that the community have.

Working at Dounreay as a Firefighter, I am more than aware of the issues that the run down of Dounreay shall cause for the community in the future. Dounreay, at the present time, employs more than 2,000 highly skilled people. Many will be out of work in as early as eight years time. With this in mind, I feel that the Council has a responsibility to ensure the upgrade of all transport infrastructures including roads, rail and air. This will enable us to attract new businesses which are able to run profitably and efficiently in the local area. It is very important that all families have a secure future here in Caithness and that our young people also have hope for their future.

Like many I signed the petition to stop the cutting down of the trees in Sir John's Square. Only a local person knows the passion we feel for these trees, so it's imperative that we have local voices to represent us at Highland Council meetings.

If elected I shall be committed to working with others as a team and always have the best interests of Thurso at heart.

Vote for me and your vote shall not be wasted. I shall fight tooth and nail for you; for the issues that concern you and the issues that affect Thurso.
