Council confirms £10,000 towards new design for Berriedale Braes

The Highland Council has shown its commitment to the economy of the North Highlands in approving £10,000 towards the design of an improved road alignment for the Berriedale Braes.
This stretch of the A9 is maintained by Transport Scotland. Because of its strategic importance to Caithness and Sutherland, the Council has been working closely with Transport Scotland, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), HITRANS and the Caithness Transport Forum to look at ways of redesigning the route through this notoriously difficult to drive stretch.
Todays decision takes the estimated £2.3 million realignment project a step closer The next stage is to complete the detailed design with a view of putting the scheme out to tender.
The funding for construction has still to be identified but moving to this next stage means that this project will be in a good position to take advantage of slippage from other projects.
