Highland councillor for Wick Bill Fernie became a volunteer director of Hi-Scot credit union last year as he is a long time believer in the ethos of credit unions. He said,"I have looked at how we could set up a credit union in the past in the north and was pleased when we as a council decided to assist the spread of the credit union to Highland from Western Isles where they had been going for some time. We hope to spread the word across Highland to people of all ages and help to educate young people about the problems of getting into debt."

It is easy to join Hi-Scot and to use the post office for transactions. Forms are available online and from council service points making it easy to join. Everyone in the community should consider joining and saving with a credit union. The credit union can assist with many financial situations and has low cost borrowing facilities and may help in situations where other lenders make very high charges for borrowing. The credit union is an organisation working for communities and offers a very attractive way to save and to borrow.
