Young Highland Entrepreneurs Urged To Beat The Business Blues Back

30th January 2007

Shell Livewire is offering young entrepreneurs in the north of Scotland a helping hand to establish their business by hosting a unique event.

'Beat the Business Blues' is a free residential weekend course specially designed to provide the basic skills to get a new business off the ground or help a company less than three months old through the difficult early stages.

The event, supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, runs on the 10th and 11th of February at the Holiday Inn Express, Stoneyfield, Inverness, and includes overnight, full board accommodation.

Developed for people between the ages of 16 and 30, the series of workshops led by business experts will provide a good foundation for business success and boost self-confidence and self-esteem.

Duncan Robbie, Executive Director at Shell Livewire, said: "Establishing your own business is a daunting task and that's why many people with great ideas never manage to fulfil their potential. Shell Livewire's 'Beat the Business Blues' event is all about supporting and providing valuable insight and advice to young entrepreneurs in running their own businesses because they are the ones who will create the jobs, wealth and innovations of tomorrow."

Those taking part will also have the opportunity to meet other young entrepreneurs who are facing the same challenges and will be able to share tips and advice with one another.

Brian Weaver, business starts manager for HIE, said: "The Highlands and Islands is a fantastic location for setting up a new business and we offer as much support and assistance as we can to help entrepreneurial ventures blossom. Shell Livewire's 'Beat the Business Blues' weekend is an ideal way to prepare for a successful future and have some fun at the same time."

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Those wishing to attend should email their name, address and telephone number to freetraining[AT]shell-livewire.org.

Applications are being taken right up to the 9th of February.

Formed 25 years ago, Shell Livewire aims to encourage young people to consider starting a business by providing quality information, advice and a support network. It also runs the nationwide 'Young Entrepreneur of the Year' awards.
