Short listing takes place for Caithness Flag Competition

9th June 2015

The competition to design a flag for Caithness attracted 327 entries and on Friday (5 June) the judging panel met in Wick Town Hall to draw up a short-list. The winning flag will be announced after a public vote.

Caithness Civic Leader, Councillor Gail Ross who was part of the judging panel said: "The flag will be the public symbol of Caithness so I was delighted that so many creative and inspiring designs were submitted. As well as entries from our local schools, 10 designs came from America and there were also entries from Brazil, Australia, England and elsewhere in Scotland.

Drawing up the short-list was no easy task and on behalf of the panel, I'd like to thank everyone who took part. The flag selected after the public vote will be the first registered area flag on the Scottish mainland and will raise recognition and awareness of the area nation-wide, express the pride in our local community and celebrate the heritage and culture of our corner of the country. I wish all the short-listed entries the best of luck and look forward to seeing the winning flying from a flagpole later this year."

While the four short-listed entries are being put in digital format for the voting process, panel member Dr Joseph Morrow, the Lord Lyon, is ensuring none are for any reason invalid. The public vote will be launched later this month and run until July 31.
