Many locals know Pentland Lodge House as "The Haunted House" from when the Rotary Club used it to frighten children at Halloween. Now guests get a much friendlier welcome at this newly opened, four-star, guest house.

Over the last year Pentland Lodge House, an old manse with thick stone walls, was refurbished, blending old style rooms with very contemporary décor and high quality fittings. Since opening in June over 500 guests have stayed The Pentland Lodge. The very successful first season saw the rooms full of Italians, Spaniards, Americans, Canadians, Australians, Latvians, English and Scots. Liz sutherland said, "So many lovely families and such a wide range of people made it both interesting and challenging".

The early success was been partly due to the overall numbers of tourists that braved the weather (the weather in England of course) to tour the North and they would like to thank VisitScotland and their tourist board outlets, especially Thurso, for recommending them to so many guests. Caithness.org and other website links have also been invaluable, attracting internet surfers to the website www.pentlandlodgehouse.co.uk.

"We try very hard to provide a really good service for our guests and are so pleased that all our local suppliers are so helpful to us. For example, Halkirk biscuits are so popular we have had to have emergency deliveries."

"We like to think, from the kind comments and compliments guests have written in our visitor book, that our staff have helped to make Thurso and Caithness a very happy holiday memory for them."
