£290k funding approved for rural community projects in Highland

30th August 2017

Three community projects in Kiltarlity, Isle of Canna/Isle of Sanday and Gairloch have been approved £290k from Highland Council's capital discretionary fund by Members of the Council's Corporate Resources Committee.

Cllr Alister Mackinnon, Chair of the Corporate Resources Committee said: "These well-deserving community projects that are ready to go will make a huge difference to each community they are located in. While Members have approved the bulk of the funding to Gairloch & District Heritage Company Ltd. they are mindful that this is subject to receiving additional LEADER funding."

Lovat Shinty Club have been granted £80k funding to help build a new sports and recreational pavilion in Kiltarlity.

Isle of Canna Community Development Trust was awarded £10k to create a non-tidal vehicle access track on the Isle of Sanday which will allow use of the road bridge that connects Sanday with Canna without being dependent on tides.

Members also approved £200k for Gairloch & District Heritage Company Ltd. towards the costs of developing a new community heritage hub in the former Council Roads depot. Members gave the award as a loan guarantee in principal, dependent on Gairloch & District Heritage Company Ltd. receiving LEADER funding.
