100 More Jobs For New Social Security Service

30th July 2019

Social Security Scotland announces first major recruitment drive in Glasgow.

Social Security Scotland is to create 100 jobs at its Glasgow base as it undertakes its first major round of recruitment in the city.

The new jobs, made up of client advisor, team leader and management posts, will support the delivery of seven benefits that will be in place by the end of this year, as well as benefits to be introduced over the next three years including disability benefits and the Scottish Child Payment.

Speaking at a jobs fair in Glasgow, Cabinet Secretary for Social Security Shirley-Anne Somerville said:"Social Security Scotland is founded on the principles of dignity, fairness and respect and our people are absolutely key in delivering that.

“As we build on our presence in Glasgow, our second major site, we are looking for people with positive attitudes who share our ambition to deliver a public service that people in Scotland can be proud of. We have already made good progress in getting people from a range of backgrounds in post and want to build on this.

“Social Security Scotland will work with a range of partners to proactively promote these posts. We want to remove barriers to employment - so have taken steps like changing entry requirements to make these posts as accessible to as many people as possible.

“Having Glasgow as Social Security Scotland's second major base will be a significant economic boost for the city as more recruitment drives will follow. If you are passionate about helping people and want to be part of building an exciting new public service, please take a look at the posts when they open and apply."

Applications will open on Tuesday 13 August 2019 on work-for-scotland.org. People can register in advance to receive an alert when these jobs and future Social Security Scotland roles are advertised

Social Security Scotland will be running workshops for up to 1,000 people to provide information, advice and support with the recruitment process. These workshops will start from Wednesday 7 August 2019. People can find out more details and register at https://bit.ly/2YvIBFK

Successful candidates will also support the delivery of Best Start Foods, Funeral Support Payment, Young Carer Grant, Job Grant, Scottish Child Payment and the Scottish Government replacements for disability assistance, Carer’s Allowance and cold weather related benefits

The benefits that these roles will support will include the four live benefits – Carer’s Allowance Supplement, Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Early Learning Payment and School Age Payment

The introduction of Scottish Child Payment will require additional staff to support its delivery. Staff numbers for Social Security Scotland will now be in excess of 1,900 once fully operational. Work to finalise workforce planning is taking place over the summer and an update on headcount and where these posts will be based will be given in the Autumn

Social Security Scotland’s head office is based in Dundee with a second major site in Glasgow. To provide operational resilience, Social Security Scotland will continue to grow across both cities as new benefits are introduced.
