We Need To Tell Our Story - Richard Murphy

9th October 2024

I've been accused of repeating myself on this YouTube channel. And that's true. I have.

But it's only by honing our stories about what a decent, sustainable world looks like that we can persuade people that it's possible to have one.

Notes
Keynesian economics is a macroeconomic theory that focuses on the idea that government intervention can stabilize the economy. It was developed by British economist John Maynard Keynes in the 1930s as a response to the Great Depression.

Keynesian economics is based on the following ideas:
Aggregate demand
The sum of spending by households, businesses, and the government is the most important driving force in an economy.

Government intervention
The government can use fiscal policy, such as public spending and taxes, to achieve economic stability.

Full employment
The government can use intervention to achieve full employment and price stability.

Keynesian economics differs from the idea that free markets will automatically provide full employment. Keynes believed that free markets don't have self-balancing mechanisms that lead to full employment.

An example of Keynesian economics in action is the Civilian Conservation Corps, a work relief program created during the Great Depression. The program created jobs for people to work on environmental projects, such as building national and state parks.

Comment
What is perhaps objectionable is when political think tank representatives appear on various tv and radio programmes or are quoted as experts in the media with little explanation that they are promoting a political view but may sound to the general public as if they are neutral. To get an idea of any particular group look at who funds them and get even more suspicious if that is hidden or kept secret.
