Urgent News from Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution
20th December 2013
Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) engineers have been working since the early hours to repair damage to the electricity network in the north of Scotland following the high winds.
Good progress continues to be made with power restored to over 8,000 customers overnight and throughout today. Our engineers continue to work hard in rural and island locations to restore the remaining 1,606 customers who do not have power.
The main areas which continue to be affected are the rural areas in the Western Isles, Oban and the Highlands. We anticipate restoring the majority of customers by later this afternoon and the remaining few this evening.
Anyone without power is being urged to contact us through our emergency centre in Perth on 0800 300 999. Outbound calls are being made to our most vulnerable customers such as the elderly, those with medical requirements, the disabled or people with young babies.
Safety around the electricity network is crucial at this time and anyone who finds any damage to the network should remain at a safe distance and call our emergency number
