Council welcomes new international service with KLM

9th December 2015

With its global reach and strong brand recognition, KLM will help ensure local businesses are better connected to key markets around the world. Tourism providers across the region will also benefit as Inverness joins KLMs worldwide network of destinations. In particular, the route gives us access to vital German and Dutch markets, which are among the most lucrative for inbound tourism in Scotland.

Flights will be operated by KLM Cityhopper using a Fokker 70 jet aircraft, with capacity for up to 80 passengers. Fares are competitively priced from £79 return including all taxes and are now on sale.

The airline will offer connections to more than 150 destinations, including Montreal, Beijing and Hong Kong. Passengers can also book flights with KLMs SkyTeam partners which, together, serve more than 1000 destinations worldwide.

We are sure you will agree that this is further good news for Inverness and the Highlands, coming just weeks after BA confirmed its plans to launch daily flights to London Heathrow. This illustrates the ambition we have at Inverness Airport to grow our network and ensure the region is better connected than ever.

The Highland Council has welcomed today's announcement of an additional daily link with Schiphol Airport from Inverness, starting in May next year.

Chair of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Audrey Sinclair welcomed the news saying: This is excellent news. The new service will greatly enhance our connectivity in the Highlands with better access to important international hubs. It builds on the good news of the new Heathrow link starting in May. These links could significantly boost our economy in the Highlands and help us attract more people to do business here.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Margaret Davidson added: This is more good news for our whole region. The Highlands are already a popular tourist destination and better international links with Inverness Airport can help us maximise this potential right across the region.
