Enterprise and innovation agencies join forces in new framework

Scotland's three enterprise agencies have joined the UK's national innovation agency to agree a collaboration framework that aims to help Scotland become one of the most innovative small nations in the world.   The Innovation Collaboration Framework for Scotland brings together Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise and Innovate UK with a commitment to support ambitious businesses to invest in research to drive economic growth, create good jobs and help tackle major societal and environmental challenges.

NDA announces £1 million funding to accelerate clean energy in West Cumbria

NDA announces £1 million investment to develop masterplan for clean energy development on land adjacent to Sellafield.   The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced today it's investing £1 million of funding to develop the masterplan for a clean energy development on land adjacent to Sellafield, known as Pioneer Park.

Rising star from North Scotland honoured at event to celebrate brightest and best in industry.   An electrical apprentice from North Scotland is celebrating after being recognised for her contribution to industry at the 13th annual Engineering Construction Industry ECI Training and Development Awards in London.

£3.4m HIE investment in Arnish Road, Stornoway

The project, led by the Stornoway Port Authority, will involve upgrading the full length of the 3.3km Arnish Moor Road.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has approved a £3.4m contribution to a £7.2m public funding package for a major project to transform road access to strategic industrial and port sites on the Isle of Lewis.

As HIE reaches 60, new chair says best is yet to come

The newly appointed chair of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) says the region is on the threshold of a new era of economic growth.   Angus Campbell's term as chair began officially on 1 November - 60 years to the day since HIE's forerunner, the Highlands and Islands Development Board (HIDB) opened for business with just six employees.

Board visit highlights growth and innovation in the Inner Moray Firth

Angus Campbell, newly appointed chair of HIE, reflects on the recent board visit and engagement event with businesses and communities across the Inner Moray Firth (IMF) area.   As I prepare to formally step into the role of chair of HIE on 1 November, I've already been inspired by the energy and ambition shown during the two days of board visits across Easter Ross, Inverness and Nairn.

Chair appointed to the Board of HIE

Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Gaelic, Kate Forbes MSP, has announced the appointment of Angus Campbell as Chair of the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).   The appointment is for three years from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2028.

Action plan targets growth of Highland workforce - New initiative aims to capitalise on infrastructure investment

A PLAN to ensure the Highlands maximises the benefits of billions of pounds in infrastructure investment is being launched by Deputy First Minster Kate Forbes.   The Workforce North Action Plan for The Highland Council area brings together a range of local and national partners with key employers to drive co-investment and collaboration.

More access to Cairngorm plateau pathways could be on the way

More visitors to Cairngorm Mountain could access pathways from the top station of the funicular railway to the summit of Cairn Gorm - if trials by the resort's operating company prove successful.   Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd (CMSL) plans to use mobile phones to track walkers’ movements and ensure they keep to the designated paths within the ski area to protect the environment.

Operator appointed for Moray innovation centre

Elevator UK will develop and manage the services offered by the Manufacturing Innovation Centre Moray.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed a specialist operating company to run a new multi-million-pound innovation centre to support manufacturing in Moray.

Caithness and Orkney primary schools to explore the science of water

Primary school pupils in Caithness and Orkney will soon have the chance to dive into the fascinating science of water, thanks to a new industry and education partnership with Scottish Water.   Delivered locally by the Science Skills Academy (SSA), the Water Cycle Workshop gives pupils the opportunity to create their own mini water cycle.

Global acquires site on Inverness Campus for new HQ

Energy services company, Global, is set to develop a new head office on Inverness Campus, as part of a company expansion that includes the creation of more than 50 new jobs.   Campus developer, HIE, has sold a 3.21 acre development plot to Global, where they will build a state-of-the-art head office next to the Life Sciences Innovation Centre (LSIC) and adjacent to UHI Inverness College.

New programme accelerates deep tech from lab to market

A new programme has launched to accelerate the journey from prototype to market for deep tech products - led by Scottish Enterprise in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and other national innovation leaders.   Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes officially launched the Deep Tech Supercluster Programme on 11 September at a showcase event held at the Bayes Centre, University of Edinburgh.

Business confidence increases in Highlands and Islands business survey

Business confidence is on the rise across the Highlands and Islands, according to the latest survey commissioned by Scotland’s development agency for the region.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) commissioned the survey in partnership with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).

£3.5m contract awarded for Golspie business units

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has awarded a £3.458m contract to Morrison Construction to develop new small units at Golspie Business Park.   HIE designed and built Golspie Business Park in the 1990s, creating nine development plots on site.
