New work ready programme seeks candidates with a positive attitude
26th February 2015
Candidates aged 16 -29 are invited to apply for a 10 week course led by SSE and being delivered in conjunction with Energy and Utility Skills and the North Highland College UHI.
The successful students will spend three weeks at the North Highland College UHI, where they will complete certificates in work readiness as well as a workshop and hand tool safety course. Students will spend two weeks at the SSE's training centre in Perth where they will work on their personal awareness, team working and communication skills whilst completing certificates in health and safety, working at heights and confined spaces. The final five weeks will be spent on a work placement with SSE or a subcontractor.
Debbie Gray, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at North Highland College UHI commented, "We are excited to be working with SSE and partners on a shared delivery of this unique training programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to gain skills and experience valued by employers and will be an excellent stepping stone for those wishing to move onto a modern apprenticeship."
Successful students will have gained experience in real working environments and will have great potential to move onto a modern apprenticeship."
Different to traditional recruitment, SSE are not looking for individuals with specific qualifications, but rather those which have a positive attitude, who are self-motivated, and are team players. Following application, there will be a ‘Visibility Day' at the college on Friday 6th March which applicants are expected to attend to show that they have the right attitude, understanding and ability to complete the 10 week training programme.
Applicants must also be happy to travel to different locations which could include overnight stays, and all travel and accommodation expenses associated with the training programme will be paid for. Attending the programme will not affect those who are currently on benefits, as they will continue to receive regular payments.
Applications must be in by midnight on the 4th March and completed online through the Brilliant Thinking website. If you would like more information on the training course or assistance completing your application, please contact the North Highland College UHI on 01847 889250 or nhcinfo[AT]uhi.ac.uk.
