2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in August ‘can have a lasting legacy'.   The world’s biggest cycling event can deliver a lasting legacy for Scotland, the Culture Secretary has said, as the country prepares to host more than 2,000 elite cyclists and para-cyclists from over 100 countries in six months’ time.

Veterans' Partnership Steps Up - Support For Former Services Personnel On Medical Appointments
A Scottish Government-backed initiative supporting veterans on hospital visits is expanding to cope with increased demand.   Veterans can be accompanied to hospital and receive help with transport under a unique collaboration between the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS), which provides trained welfare officers, and Fares4Free, a charity offering transport through their outreach support drivers.

NHS workers and others are being forced onto the picket lines while these fat cats get the cream, says GMB Union A 999 ambulance call handler would need to work for almost 150 years to match the pay of the average CEO, GMB analysis of new figures shows.  [1] Research from the High Pay Centre think tank, released today, estimates that the median FTSE 100 CEO's pay is £3.41 million - a 39 per cent increase on median CEO pay levels as of January 2022.

Coffin Factory Strike Enters Fourth Month Co-op Funeralcare Wastes £1 Million Instead Of Resolving Dispute
Unite members have resumed strike action at the Co-op Funeralcare coffin manufacturing factory based in Glasgow in a bitter dispute over pay which has now entered its fourth month.   Strike action by Unite members began on Wednesday 4 January 2023 and will run continuously through to Monday 16 January, which will be the fourth consecutive week of strike action.

British Retail Consortium Forecast Low Sales Growth For 2023
New analysis by the British Retail Consortium suggests that retail sales will grow between 2.3% to 3.5% in 2023.   The past year has been characterised by low retail sales growth which has remained below current inflation, suggesting volumes were down compared to 2021.
