Leisure Businesses Invited To Apply For Covid-19 Business Grant

Grants of up to £3,150 are available to Leisure businesses who have been affected by measures to control the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus. These businesses will have had to introduce further physical distancing and capacity limits following the new rules that came into force the day after Boxing Day.

To be eligible for this Scottish Government grant the Leisure business must be registered as either a conference centre; music venues & art facilities; sports facilities; gyms; leisure centre; outdoor centres; cinemas; amusement and recreation; bingo; casinos; softplays, and snooker clubs.

Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Trish Robertson said: "If the business is an eligible one, and previously received a grant from the Council, we have today (Wednesday 19 January 2022) written direct to them and have invited them to complete a short online form if they wish to receive grant support. At the moment the grant scheme is open until the end of January, but we urge all businesses not to wait until then but to complete and submit the online form as soon as possible."

"If a Leisure business does not receive a direct email from us, and they think they may be eligible, they must go the Scottish Government's Find Business Support website, read the guidance provided and follow instructions as to how they can apply. All new applications need to be made via the Scottish Government."

Still time to return Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election ballots

Anyone eligible to vote in the contested Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council election is reminded that their postal ballot papers need to be completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope provided by 12 noon on Thursday, 8 October 2026.   Candidates standing were invited to submit a statement to support their candidacy and these statements are provided in the envelopes mailed out along with the ballot papers to all eligible voters.

Highland Council proceeds to procurement for a new electric Corran Ferry

The Highland Council has reached another significant milestone in the delivery of a replacement Corran Ferry, with the procurement for a new electric vessel.   Funded through a £58 million investment from the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, including £28 million from the Scottish Government for the new electric vessel, £20 million from the UK Government and £10 million from The Highland Council towards landside infrastructure, the project will deliver a modern replacement ferry service for one of Scotland's busiest single-vessel crossings.
